The issue is not that every business must buy a managed service. The issue is whether the current support arrangement gives the business enough responsibility, visibility and continuity.
Signs the current approach is under strain
- The same faults return without their cause being addressed
- Staff do not know where to request help
- Devices, licences and user access are not recorded consistently
- Security work is postponed until there is an incident
- Backup success is assumed rather than checked
- New starters and leavers are handled differently each time
- Suppliers blame one another and nobody coordinates the result
- Important changes happen without an agreed plan
- Management cannot see what support time is being spent on
One sign does not automatically justify a managed service. A pattern shows that the work between support calls needs more attention.
What ad-hoc support does well
Ad-hoc support is useful for a specific fault, a defined piece of advice or occasional help when the business is comfortable owning the wider environment.
The business pays for the work requested and is not committed to a broader management relationship. That can be a good fit when needs are genuinely occasional.
The limitation is that reactive work normally focuses on the immediate request. Inventory, monitoring, maintenance, security review and longer-term planning require separate scope and ownership.
What managed support changes
A managed relationship defines what the provider is responsible for within an agreed scope. It can include a support route for staff, routine administration, maintenance, documentation, review and coordination.
Managed does not automatically mean unlimited or all-inclusive. Hardware, licences, third-party charges, major projects, migrations and work outside scope may still be separate.
The agreement should say what is included, what is excluded and how additional work is approved.
Kwik Support relationship options
Lite
Lite provides occasional support with no monthly fee, no included support time and no service level agreement. Work is billed at the current ad-hoc rate. It is intended for customers who need technical help from time to time without an ongoing managed relationship.
Core
Core provides a month-to-month support relationship with 30 calendar days’ notice. It has no included support time or service level agreement. Support is billed at the monthly-client rate, and other services are added and priced as needed.
Plus
Plus adds proactive managed-IT work within the agreed scope. Additional project work, hardware, licences and separately scoped services remain outside the plan unless the agreement says otherwise.
Enhanced
Enhanced is a customised managed service for customers who want Kwik Support to take operational responsibility for the agreed infrastructure and scope. It is all-inclusive only within that agreed scope.
Backup, security and cloud services are scoped separately rather than assumed to be bundled.
Start with a discovery meeting
If the business is unsure which option fits, the first step is a conversation online or in person.
We discuss the main pain points, explain what we understand about the current infrastructure and agree what needs to be checked. If the situation needs a deeper investigation or audit, the scope and cost are agreed first.
The assessment provides a high-level view of what is working, the areas that need attention and the next sensible priorities. Detailed remedy design is handled in a proposal if the business wants to proceed.
Questions to ask before choosing managed support
- Which systems and devices are covered?
- Which tasks happen routinely?
- Which support work is billed separately?
- Who owns contact with other suppliers?
- How are new users, leavers and device changes handled?
- Which security and backup services are included?
- Which hours and support channels apply?
- What is outside scope?
- How are projects and major changes approved?
- What happens when the agreement ends?
The answers should be clear before the service starts. Compare Kwik Support’s plans or explore managed IT support.
